Rhubarb Report 060

Thursday, 14 February 2013 23:36 Written by Allan Besselink

Rheum rhabarbarum - RhubarbHappy Valentine's Day, everyone. Was your day filled with chocolate? Hallmark? Roses? Or was it just a transitional day between the 13th and the 15th?

In 2011, I wrote a post entitled "365 Valentines A Year". I took the time to read it again today. It was then that I remarked that "perhaps in the midst of our daily lives, we lose sight that each and every day really should be filled with the love of friends and family and intimate companions. Perhaps each and every day we should appreciate the presence of those people in our lives that make our world a better place". A reminder of some very important things, indeed.

Another 365-day-a-year proposition is fresh rhubarb. It can be found each and every day. So with that in mind, I bring you episode 60 of the Rhubarb Report.

Images Of Life In Front Of Me

Friday, 16 May 2014 08:44 Written by Allan Besselink

My OM-10I was sitting on the living room floor. It was the summer of 1984. The decision in question was spread out in front of me: two pieces of paper that, frankly, held my destiny and future.

One of those pieces of paper was an acceptance letter from Queen's University. The second piece of paper was an acceptance letter from Ryerson. It was what was contained on each that was most important.

It was a decision being made at the ripe-old age of 18 that would ultimately have an impact on, well, the rest of my life.

lectern shotThe podcast “Consumer’s Guide To Health” returned to the airwaves in January. This biweekly podcast and live stream airs on BlogTalkRadio every second Thursday at 11:00am central time. Join the discussion!

This episode is entitled “The Marathon: Training Progression Or Social Phenomenon?”. Marathons are in the forefront in the mindset of Austinites this weekend as the LiveStrong Austin Marathon is coming to the streets of Austin on Sunday, February 19.

Marathon running has evolved rather significantly over the past 30 years. But when I say that, it has not necessarily been an the evolution of training methods as such as much as it has been a change in the marathon’s place in popular culture.

So to discuss this further, the guest for this episode is Marshall Burt, a track coach from Austin, Texas. His club is the Elite Training Group Track Club.

There are 36 previous episodes currently available on my BlogTalkRadio channel. You can subscribe via RSS or the podcasts are also available on iTunes.

The next episode will be on Thursday, March 1.

Rhubarb Report 059

Rheum rhabarbarum - RhubarbPro football's finest hour (or four) will soon be upon us. The Super Bore is this weekend. With any luck, it won't be a bore, though the majority of them have had little in terms of excitement. Past history would indicate a good chance of a blowout. Maybe this year will be different. If not, we can always just turn it off and discuss deer antler spray or Randy Moss' legacy in the meantime.

With fingers crossed for a great game this weekend, let's take first down and ten and move along to episode 059 of the Rhubarb Report.

Further, Further, Further

How much further? One year ago today, the world lost not only a physiotherapist but a true visionary as well: Robin McKenzie.

In retrospect, I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet Robin McKenzie and to watch him assess and treat patients live. It was an experience that I look back on fondly and that words fail to describe. I still laugh when I recollect his telling the tale of legendary patient Mr. Smith in such a matter-of-fact and unassuming way.

Today, I can attest that his vision and insights live on stronger than ever. Here are some personal reflections on McKenzie, MDT, and what we really stand to learn from his legacy.
