Rhubarb Ruminations: Episode 19

Wednesday, 20 July 2011 13:13

Roger Clemens Before I get this Rumination rolling, I must pause for a moment and take note. Thus far this year, I have maintained my goal of writing more frequently – three times a week, in fact. The net result has been not only a consistent writing schedule, but also a new record in blog posts on my site. This serves as a good reminder – that consistency of effort is key. And, of course, how better to display consistency than in the Ruminations – where truth is consistently stranger than fiction.

In this episode of the Ruminations, I bring to you the wackiness that is California, Roger’s mistrial, and the psychosis that is (once again) US politics. Onwards and away!

1. A California official – Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone – has made a proposal that only Rick Perry could truly appreciate. He has suggested that “South California” should become the 51st state. Wait a second here. Wasn’t that going to be Puerto Rico? Don’t most Americans think that the 51st state is Mexico or Canada?

Seriously though, he wants there to be a 51st state and call it South California. The new state would include the counties of Riverside, San Bernardino, Imperial, San Diego, Orange, Kings, Kern, Fresno, Tulare, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa and Mono – home to about 13 million people. And imagine this – Los Angeles is notably absent. Surprise! Good call on that one.

Then you have the northern part of the state – and the southern part of Oregon – wanting to create another 51st state, the State of Jefferson. Does the craziness ever end? If Rick Perry has his way and Texas secedes, then there will be an opening for a new 50th state …

2. Roger Clemens is the welcome recipient of, get this, a mistrial. Once again, what is the United States government doing spending millions of dollars on yet another baseball trial? This is a problem that should have been dealt with, one way or another, by Major League baseball. For further thoughts on this one, see “Barry Bonds”. Do the US taxpayers really want their money being spent on this crap? I mean, seriously, the debt ceiling might not have to be raised if we did away with some of the ridiculous expenditures created by committees such as these.

3. It wouldn’t be a Rumination without some talk of the national political insanity that exists in this country. Every two weeks, when a new Rumination appears, there always seems to be something to discuss. This episode is no different.

I bring to you: “reparative therapy”. Mr. Michelle Bachmann aka Marcus Bachmann believes that gay clients can become straight through the power of prayer. Ummmm, no. This story was first given mainstream exposure by truthwinsout.org. Regardless of what the science might say, they continue to receive funding from state and federal programs.  Some might call that fraud … or “scandal” at the bare minimum.

Remember, this could be the next Republican candidate for the Presidency of the United States of America. Just sayin’ …
